Week 3 PHOTOS AND IMAGES
#7 Blog about technology
I am blown away by changes in technology. I completed an Arts degree on a typewriter that went 'ting' at the end of each carriage return ... and what a satisfying 'ting' that was! By an error of consequence, two years later I was working as a systems analyst ... providing support for a DOS based database. And we thought the searching capability of this database was sophisticated! Just as the platform of business was changing to Windows, I went overseas for an intended 9 months travel. This 9 months evolved into 4 years. In this 4 years I was oblivious to the advancement of technology. Palestinian refugee camps were not quite at the forefront of the technological revolution! When I returned, life here had been transformed by the availability and application of the world wide web. I went back to study for a Masters with the aid of online catalogues, online databases, and was even able to source some full text documents online. I was also able to establish some really valuable contacts following link ... to link ... to link on the internet.
And now, the focus on participation ... being able to share ideas, pictures ... and then mash them in creative, novel ways. Yes, it can be frustrating, yes it can be an incredible time waster ... but in the last 20 years my most persistent response to changes in technology as it applies to the retrieval of information is an awestruck WOW!
